E.I.T.C. Ship's Cargo Lantern

A traditional, working lantern which is distinguishable by its flame-protected enclosure, plus multiple attachment points to hang & secure the lamp in all 4 directions... without swinging... regardless of the sea-state or movement of the ship.

During the illustrious 274-year history of Britain's East India Trading Company (E.I.T.C.), this became the only lamp of its type which was approved for belowdecks use in the cargo hold, providing much-needed illumination to these otherwise dark spaces, jam-packed with tea, spices, textiles and silk (etc... ahem!...)

Today, the lantern remains a seagoing classic and is an elegant choice for backup lighting aboard the ship, or as a display for the home or office -

SPECIFICATIONS:

10" Height (table top... without bails extended)
16" Height (hanging... with upper + lower bails extended)

4" x 4" Square Base

1/2" Flat Wick (included)

Fuel/Capacity: Holds 4 ounces of lamp oil, liquid paraffin or kerosene, available at most hardware stores. Average 4 - 6 hours burn time depending on flame adjustment.

COMMENTS: Heavy gauge, solid brass construction can't rust, and doesn't affect the ship's compass if placed near the helm. Ships quickly and directly from our USA stockroom.
